Zi Zha Lian Bird Zun, a late Spring and Autumn wine vessel, was excavated in Jinsheng Village, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, and is one of the most famous Chinese bronzes in the U.S. Freer Gallery. The whole vessel is cast as a ferocious owl bird with a pointed beak, and the bird's head and body are joined by mortise and tenon joints that can be opened and closed. The bird's head is decorated with feather patterns, retraces and dots. The neck is decorated with deformed kui dragons and filled with reticulation, the shoulders with kui dragons, the back with feathers in high relief, the belly with scales and kui dragons, and the feet with clouds.
