Height: 33 centimeters Length: 17 centimeters Width: 22 centimeters Weight: about 8 poundsThe Shang Dish Square Earthenware (léi) is a bronze vessel from the late Shang Dynasty. The vessel was unearthed in the eighth year of the Republic of China, at Chijiahe, Taoyuan County, Hunan Province. It is now in the Hunan Provincial Museum.
The lid of the Shang earthenware jar is in the form of a hipped roof, and the body of the jar is made of a rectangular mouth with a straight neck and a high footrim. The whole vessel is decorated with a cloud and thunder pattern on the base, with animal faces, kui dragons and phoenix birds. The shoulders are decorated on both sides with a double earring, and an animal head is placed under the belly on the front. The corners of the four sides and the center of each side are decorated with a raised long hook halberd-shaped casement.
